Everyone knows wind turbines. Few know what they give us
Wind turbines are everywhere in the landscape, and everyone knows Denmark is good at building them. But what the turbines and their power mean in everyday life is something most people know very little about.
Here's an example: one rotation of an offshore wind turbine produces enough electricity to run your electric toothbrush for a whole year. Didn't know that? Fair enough, you're not the only one.
So Ørsted wanted a product that could pass that knowledge on, ideally to children.

Build your own wind turbine
Design it and put it up in the garden
Together with Advice A/S and Ørsted, we made Windy Wings, an app where you design and build your very own wind turbine. With augmented reality you can put it up in your garden, or wherever you like, and study it at 1:1 scale.
A wind turbine is big. Find somewhere with plenty of room, or use the built-in feature to shrink it a little.
Blades that turn with the real weather
The app uses your location and live weather data from the Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI) to turn the blades at exactly the speed a real turbine would turn if it stood right where you placed yours. It's pretty fascinating to watch.
