Your pension doesn't look after itself

Many people think their pension savings look after themselves. Once the pension is set up, we don't give it much thought. That's a problem, because you should check every so often that your pension still fits your life.

Have you bought a house? Then your pension probably needs adjusting. Have you had children, got married or divorced, or had a big pay rise? Every time your life changes, your pension needs to keep up.

But it's hard to see into the future. The rule of thumb is simple, yet it's hard to relate to how much money you'll need to keep your standard of living as a pensioner.

Nobody wants to read letters about pensions

Sampension is happy to help with that. But first you need to realise that your pension doesn't look after itself, so you remember to get in touch when something happens in your life that calls for an adjustment.

How do you make that message stick when nobody wants to read letters or watch films about pensions? Our answer was to tempt people with a virtual reality experience.

A parcel instead of a letter

Oh, what's in there?

Instead of the traditional "remember your pension" reminder in a letter, Sampension sends you a parcel. Oh, you think, what could be in there?

Inside is a VR headset and a simple guide. It's intriguing enough that you get curious and follow the guide, and soon you're inside Sampension's virtual world of pension knowledge. You might even share the experience with your family, who want a go too.

The goal is a conversation

You don't need to know everything about pensions afterwards. The point is for you to realise that your savings need adjusting when your life changes, and ultimately to talk to your pension adviser more often.
